USG Alumni 5th Annual Conference

The 5th USG Alumni Networking Conference:

U.S.G Alumni and representatives from the U.S. Embassy outside the Ismaili Center
The 5th USG Alumni Networking Conference was held in Dushanbe Ismaili Center on November 28-29, 2014.

The event, initiated by a group of USG Alumni interested in strengthening and expanding the work of USG alumni in Tajikistan, brought over 100 former exchange participants together to discuss alumni actions and plans for youth empowerment. The activity helped the alumni to share the concepts explored during their exchange program and after and to discuss a wide range of areas, including sports, science, prevention of fundamentalism, human rights, entrepreneurship, information and communication technologies and journalism, to empower youth to be more active in the public life. It served as a platform for a greater interaction among alumni to find the ways to empower youth.

The conference aimed at the establishment, strengthening and expansion of contacts among the members of USG alumni community. It allowed the alumni get new information, share experiences and best practices, discuss current issues, and participate in the development of new projects.  This is of interest not only for alumni of USG programs, but also for their larger communities as it enables them to contribute to the development of a democratic society.

Alumni from across Tajikistan gathered for the conference
This year the conference was organized to enable alumni to get hands on practice conducting volunteer activities and community service. On November 29, 2014, USG alumni visited Hissor Orphanage for Children with Disabilities,  Boarding School #1 in Dushanbe, and the office of NGO Good Neighbors in order to take part in community service projects.  It provided a unique opportunity for the participants to participate actively in discussion on issues and current situations important to youth and to come up with ideas and suggestions to meet new challenges and solve problems.

All conference participants were encouraged to offer their own versions of cooperation between members of the USG alumni community which will help to prepare and implement various join activities in high levels. Alumni are looking forward to more active collaboration and community service in the near future.
