Shamsullo Mirzoev: What Makes Rasht Valley Special

The project of ”What makes Rasht Valley special” was supported by the US Embassy, under USG alumni grant and implemented very successfully. “What makes Rasht Valley Special” project implemented by 30, 2013-2015 students of English Access Microscholarship Program in Gharm, two other American Corner Gharm volunteers, Former Fulbright ETA in Gharm Anna Khandros, Access teachers Saidkhojaev Sharbatkhuja and Shamsullo Mirzoev.

We spent over three months researching, writing, and editing on this projectThe Access students worked both individually and in groups. Students were involved in every step of the filming process, including deciding when and where to film, and assistant directing each other's scenes.

Within this project Access students got an opportunity to go to many different special parts of Rasht Valley and got introduced with various places and have learnt many new things. For example we together visited to Shull,Chashmai Qozi, Khoit, Kamarob, Vardoch, Jafr and other places of Rasht Valley. From the project activities the Access students have learnt and developed their experiences on:
·         English writing and speaking skills in a fun and meaningful way.
·         Learned about their communities, as well as the Rashy Valley region, through independent research.
·         Had the oppurtunity to travel to local places where they had never been. Girls especially reported having had a one-of-a-kind oppurtunity.
·         Learned about tourism in the area. Students have already helped visitors find hotel accomodations.
·         Teachers of the English Access Microscholarship program were able, for the first time, to visit several students' homes and meet their families. This visits also increased teachers' understanding of their students: their home environment, how far they have to travel to attend Access classes, etc.
